DIY Wall Christmas Tree

Among the plenty of ways to bring a touch of festive cheer into your home during the holiday season, a Christmas tree takes the cake! There’s something truly magical about it. However, if you don’t have the space, time, and budget (and storage space) that it takes for a full-blown traditional Christmas tree, this wall Christmas tree is perfect for your home! It still lets you have all the fun decorating with baubles, twinkling lights, your favorite ornaments, and holiday photoshoots around it.

Pinterest is full of clever and creative ways to make a minimalist Christmas tree, this one was my favorite! I switched up the materials and added simple and customized ornaments. It is budget-friendly (cost me less than $30!!), space-saving, convenient to store for next year, and most importantly, it’s all MADE by you! 🙌🏻

Let’s jump into the materials, steps, and Christmas ornament hacks along the process of this Instagram-worthy Christmas tree!

What we need:

Steps:

Measure
  • Spot the center point of your wall. Mark that spot. Starting from that point, place as many marks spaced 7 inches apart as you’d want the height of the tree to be. Mine is 3.5 feet (42 inches) so I make 6 marks in a vertical line.
  • Next, identify how wide you want the tree at the bottom and start working your way up by shortening the width until you reach the top. The branches in my tree are 26, 22, 18, 14, 10, 6 inches. Note: These measurements are based on the width of my wall.
Build
  • Cut the foam pipe into 6 portions based on the width measurements, leaving additional 2 inches each on both sides.
  • Start creating the tree branches by gluing the pine needles, or pushing them into the foam pipe, whichever works best for you. However, as I reached the center of each branch, I was cutting down the pine needles shorter to avoid bunching in the center.
  • I started with the longest branch and worked my way upwards but you can do it the other way. By doing this the tree can be made as large or as small and you can stop creating more branches if the tree starts to look satisfactory.
  • Hold down the pine needles for 3-5 seconds after gluing them as they tend to straighten away. Let the glue completely dry.
Decorate

Time for some cute ornaments of your choice, this step is completely optional but a lot of these ornament ideas are even fun crafts or DIY gifts you can make with your family. Less is more with this style so I kept it to a simple red-gold color scheme.

  • I decorated the tree with twinkly battery lights, however for the ornaments, I wanted completely skip the store-bought plastic ones, as the branches of the tree are pretty much plastic. I also wanted to be creative and DIY them using beads and clay.
  • For the winterberries, I used wooden beads from the Dollarstore, painted them red, and glued them on the branches.
  • I also made some clay ornaments with some fun Christmas themes shaped and also our initials, added minor gold touches. The white color of the clay will keep the look simple, natural, and wintery.
  • The star on my tree is another DIY made by simply glued down a couple of clothespins in the shape of a star!
  • Add battery-operated or LED fairy lights!

Using a double-sided tape stick the branches to the wall as hard as you can to secure them.

Styling tip: Place a basket underneath with presents or blankets. Co-ordinate your gift wrapping to suit the tree to create a more festive appeal.
