2 days in Venice

On our trip to Italy, we spent 2 days in the floating magical city of Venice. With all of the wonderful things, this city has to offer – the canals, architecture, gondolas, quaint and colorful streets, vantage points, one definitely needs to plan ahead! To save you the hassle, here are highlights of our trip to the most romantic and storybook of a city!

Highlights: A gondola ride in the evening really set the scene for our stay in Venice. I quickly and truly realized why Venice is so bucket-list-worthy!

Day 1: We arrived in Venice, and took a water taxi (the easiest and most convenient way to get around Venice) to our B&B while capturing lovely views of the city along the way!

Later in the evening, we set out and strolled through the various canals and islands of Venice city. We chose our B&B super close to St. Mark’s Square (Piazza San Marco), the heart of Venice and The Grand Canal (Ponte de Rialto) the most buzzing and ideal spot for Venetian evenings. Other than the oh-so-many beautiful alleys and buildings, we visited

  • Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale)
  • St. Mark’s Basilica
  • St. Mark’s Square (Piazza San Marco)
  • Bridge of Sighs (Ponte di Sospiri)
  • San Giorgio Maggiore (stunning views of Venice from its bell tower)

Next, we hopped onto a private gondola ride, although touristy, a great way to experience the city sailing through its waters. It is very easy to book the ride on spot, you could also book them in advance (here) to save time! You may choose this to skip the gondola ride if you find it expensive (€80 for 40 minutes, €120 for 60 minutes) and take a Vaporetto (water taxi) or a boat tour. We ended the day with a great dinner by The Grand Canal and some awesome gelato.

Day 2: After a quick breakfast, we set out to explore Venice in the daylight and to one of the most colorful towns in Europe – Burano. We stopped almost at every turn of the city’s winding canals, alleys, bridges (Venice is also called as City of Bridges!) and vantage points clicking pictures.

Highlights of Day 2

  • The magnificent Grand Canal (Ponte de Rialto)
  • Day trip to one of the most colorful towns – Burano (Blog post coming soon!)
  • Boat tour around Venice. Links to book this or a different one.
  • Soaking in the Venitian sunset and nightlife
