The lehenga with shirt look

Although Sarees and Lehengas are the contemporary and traditional choice for many Indian occasions, you can still add a western twist to them. This wedding season be the one who stands out in the crowd by pairing your lehenga with a casual shirt! It’s one of those Indo-western fusion looks that continued to be trendy and has seemed to get hotter ever since Anushka Sharma sported it in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, along with a heavy polka neckpiece!

It is definitely a comfortable and low-key way to switch up your festive/wedding outfit. Along with ideas of color combinations, I have pooled in silk, brocade, printed, sequinned net lehengas/skirts that you can put together to achieve this contemporary, chic, effortless shirt blouse-lehenga look!

Style with: Chunky earrings / statement necklaces / bangles / a statement clutch / potli / belt will up the look!
Suitable for: Wedding guests, bridesmaids, pre-wedding events, photoshoots, traditional events at work, festivals.

Printed Lehengas

These impressive lehengas have artistic prints, are soft on the eye yet colorful, and are embellished with mirrors and embroidery.

1. Top the peach one with maroon, beige, navy blue low collar shirts
2. Pair the yellow one with mint, teal, grey, off-white, blush pink shirts
3. An off-white or beige shirt will balance the pop of color in the pink lehenga
4. This red lehenga with the elephants’ all around will be perfect with a crisp white shirt
5. The satin coral red one is already super vibrant and can be teamed up with a sheer/silk white, off-white shirt and simple accessories
6. I love the white lehenga, it has a delightful Ikat print in blue, and a satin royal blue or a navy blue shirt would brighten it up!

A flowery skirt can be associated with striped shirts to achieve this Sabyasachi inspired look.

Brocade/Banarasi Lehenga

A Banarasi lehenga delivers a grand look, and pairing it with a solid white shirt makes it an interesting fusion. Enhance the rich and classy appeal using shirts in gold or contrast colors. Chandbalis and a gold potli will make good companions for this look!

1. Green brocade lehenga would be fabulous with basic white cotton or a satin shirt for a casual appearance, and a fuchsia blouse for a festive outfit.
2. Pink and golden lehenga is a beautiful and versatile piece! A shiny and shimmery shirt, as donned by Alia Bhatt makes a perfect attire for Sangeet and similar occasions!

Sequined Lehengas

These layered lehengas/skirts add a breezy, modern look to any party. Because these are in such solid colors, any pastel color shirt will create a fun, vivid contrast. Shimmery shirts might overdo the outfit as lehengas are heavily embroidered.

1. The brown skirt will go perfectly well with a gold/beige metallic top as shown, but do try indigo, navy, dark blue for an evening event!
2. The grey skirt is my absolute favorite! The no. of color combinations it opens up is limitless, starting with the powder orange as shown; you can explore all possible pastel color shirts!
