DIY boho floral jute rug

Spring is a season that brings the prettiest colors, blooming flowers, singing of birds, longer days, and is definitely the most beautiful season in my opinion! To welcome Spring and to prepare your mood and home for the season, here are some adorable things that you can make at home! My ideas are based on the theme of the Spring season i.e., refreshing, nature, leaf buds, colorful blossoming flowers. Now let’s ‘spring’ into crafting, shall we?

I love this boho feeling floral DIY! The jute element brings in such a natural feel to the look, and that with white flowers and green leaves is an excellent combination for our Spring theme! It can be displayed in the living room, bedroom, or you can start a new Spring craft wall! It would also make a perfect house-warming gift!

You can essentially do this using a full mat, but also join smaller various-shaped mats into one, to make it more intricate and unique! Check out the DIY steps below!

What you need:

  • Different sized jute mats. I got mine here and here. Currently, they are out of stock on Amazon/eBay/Flipkart/Etsy, but checkout similar designs here, here, here, here. Don’t lose hope, you can also buy full rugs where ever you find them, like this one!
  • Faux flowers (The white peonies are from my birthday cake! :D)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Jute twine – Dollar Store
  • Scissors

Prep time:

~ 30 mins

Let’s do it:

  • Lay out all the mats into a design you like, try to have as many joints as possible depending on the weight of the mats so that you glue them together as much as you can
  • Apply a generous amount of hot glue on all the connections and secure the jute pieces together – let it dry for 10 minutes
  • This step is optional but I suggest turning the rug around and glue all joints once again on the back
  • Next, place all the flowers and leaves on the rug the way you like, and glue them on. Place the smaller buds and leaves first followed by the larger flowers. This will also help you fill any gaps caused by the leaves. Let dry!
  • Once again turn the mat upside down and lay it out over an open basket or a container so that you can secure the flowers from the back using the jute twine or more hot glue
  • Lastly, to be able to hang it on a wall, cut a small piece of twine and glue it on the back, or run it through the topmost area and make a loop.
  • Hang it the next day! I used double-sided tape on the other three sides of the hanging 🌸

Inspiration:

I was looking for inspiration on wall hangings with jute, boho jute decor and ran into Mr. Kate implementing a similar design and then there was no stopping! 😀

So this got me thinking… what other kinds of decor and crafts can you make with such jute mats/rugs! Post your ideas below!

Save this idea for later!
