DIY Raffia Christmas Trees

I am super excited to share a neutral yet festive Christmas tree idea. Wicker, raffia, rattan materials are so popular right now I wanted to incorporate these materials into some fun holiday decor. They also fit perfectly for a minimalist, hygge, scandi style Christmas decor. I ran into Raffia Pendant lights this summer, and was like, OK those look like Christmas trees to me! I pinned the DIY for later and here we are just in time to put up some Christmas decor in our homes and office spaces!

They are so simple and don’t require much energy nor materials to make. Just with a tiny bit of patience, you’d have adorable little trees for your fireplace mantles, tablescape, desk holiday decorations! Check out how I made them and styled a cozy Christmas village scene using tiny houses (similar), cotton, and string lights! ❄️

What we need:

  • Raffia (Dollar store or Amazon). If you don’t have raffia, you can substitute it with yarn, twine, or jute.
  • A snowcone cup / party hat / styrofoam cone / ice cream cone / waffle cone / a cereal box or cardstock made into a cone
  • Hot glue gun
  • Embellishments and a star (optional)

Steps:

  • Start wrapping the raffia around the cone by gluing it down along the way, make sure the raffia is uneven with each round to give it a natural and handmade look.
  • Wrap it enough to cover the base completely.
  • Add embellishments to the tree. I am using pearl sprinkles as lights around the tree. You can also decorate with regular pearls, beads, rhinestones, pompoms, etc.
  • Looking too simple for your taste? Add some sparkle by making a shiny star or a snowflake as tree toppers! ⭐
